SCaLE 22x (2025)

I had the incredible opportunity to present at this year’s Southern California Linux Expo (SCaLE 22x), held March 6–9, 2025, in Pasadena, CA. As the largest community-run open-source and free software conference in North America, SCaLE was the perfect venue to connect with fellow makers, developers, and educators who share a passion for open technology.

During my session, I shared how I use multiple Arduino boards for my environmental data-collection rover, Scarab and talked about how open hardware and software can come together to create powerful, accessible solutions for air quality monitoring and tracking the effects of climate change.

It was exciting to engage with an audience that was not only curious but also eager to apply these tools in their own work, whether for education, prototyping, or pure experimentation.

SCaLE 22x was an amazing experience. I had the chance to attend some great talks, meet people working on fascinating open-source projects, and have conversations that sparked new ideas for future Arduinobotics content and builds.

I’ve always believed that robotics should be open, modifiable, and shared freely. SCaLE reaffirmed that belief and reminded me why community-driven events like this are so important.
